So I realize there’s a lot of new followers today, and judging by the notes I’ve gotten since I posted the preview picture, not all of you are aware of what’s going on. Here’s a brief explanation, and I’ll post another FAQ in a minute. I’ve been a long time fan of Adagio teas, which sells a lot of great tea products, and last week I realized I could create my own custom tea blends on their site, and upload my own packaging design. So for giggles I started making tea blends and labels for (nearly) every Sherlock character.
These are absolutely things that you can also order for yourself, and Adagio was actually nice enough to give the teas their own section on their website. I don’t make any profit on them aside from earning points every time someone orders one of the blends, and I use those points on ordering the blends for myself so I can try them and adjust the blends as I need to and leave reviews like these:
Mycroft: The smell of this tea in the bag reminds me strongly of Pfeffernusse, those German Pepper cookies you get at Christmas. Mostly spice, but coated with chocolate on the bottom. Sweet, wonderful nostalgia. I could cry. And oh my god it even tastes like that brewed up. I’m sort of amazed right now. I was trying to blend a tea that would be reminiscent of a piece of chocolate cake but I’m so happy with what I got. The tea is a little bit bitter on it’s own, but again, it reminds me of spice cookies. The chocolate taste is really nice and mellow, but the spices aren’t too strong either. It all just works really well together. I actually like it just fine on it’s own, but adding a little cream and sugar makes this tea feel decadent. Definitely a Mycroft tea.
Molly: Hmm. HMMM. Uh-oh. Trying to decide how I feel about how the tea smells in the bag. It kinda smells… like a cough drop? It’s a very herbal cherry smell. Which is accurate, I guess, since the teas are Chamomile and Cherry :| And again, I’m not crazy about fruit flavors in my tea. The cherry scent mellows out in the cup, luckily. And it’s sort of adorable, since it’s a light tea, and it’s cute and pale pink. Very Molly. And now that it’s brewed, the white tea and chamomile flavors are coming through, with lots of bright cherry notes at the end. By itself, It’s cute, quirky and quite fun really. I actually keep a jar of Vanilla Bean infused sugar lying around, and it was perfect stirred into the tea as well. Another one that doesn’t need cream, but adding it makes it even more adorable. A very sweet tea for Molly *___*
Moriartea: Whooooah this smells very very fresh and grassy in the bag. It’s got a very familiar smell, but I can’t place it…. it’s like… very fresh ginger and strong cloves and cut grass. I don’t know, but it’s very heady. I keep whiffing it. Mmmmm. It mellows down in the cup and smells more like a traditional chai. And yup, it’s got a very dominant ginger and clove taste. Actually not quite as spicy as I was hoping! But I may just have to let it steep a few minutes longer next time (I have a lot of teas to go through!). This is pretty tasty plain, but I drink my chai sweetened with a lot of milk and it’s pretty delicious. Adding the milk actually makes the tea taste more peppery! I’m going to super concentrate some of this so I can make some iced Chai’s whenever I want *__* Very tasty.
Watson: This is the most popular tea on Adagio right now, so if I don’t think it tastes good, I’m going to feel like a jerk. So here we go. In the bag, it smells wonderful. You get that strong, warm cinnamon scent first, then you realize there’s some earl grey in there too and I melt just a little bit because it’s just such a comforting smell. Warm and familiar and calming. The cinnamon smell is still strong in the cup, and kind of reminds me of red hot candies LOL. And oh man. This tea is naturally really nice and sweet without any added sugar. The cinnamon continues to be be dominant, but you definitely get the earl grey in there with the sweet orange tones. This tea is absolutely lovely and definitely reminds me of John. I think it’s earned its ranking.
Can’t wait to try this out when I get my share!!
